We often get asked about using tuner x, y, or z with our systems. We’ll highlight here which tuner options are available and workable for your Sprintex system. These are not absolute, empirical rules but instead strong recommendations.
For all systems, it is strongly advised that you use only the tuner options listed here. We have compiled a list of what works and what doesn’t.
Whenever you modify your vehicle’s engine, a new tune is recommended. If you add headers and an intake that your tune was not made to support, then you greatly risk running too lean and doing damage to your engine or catalytic converters.
If you have additional electronics like a throttle-booster or transmission computer, please be advised that these supplemental electronics often fight with OBD flash tunes. They can affect your speedometer read-out, shift patterns, emissions, and throttle behavior.
07-11 JK, p/n 264A1007
DiabloSport InTune is currently the only option we offer. We have these tunes very well polished and debugged. They are not currently plug and play at this time.
SCT’s Bully Dog let’s shop make their own tunes but we offer no support for this system. Our kit uses a different map sensor and larger injectors. SCT’s offering is the only other option that will let a tuner shop dial in your tune for these parts. To date we are not aware of anyone that has made a map for our kit.
The Superchips TrailDash is not compatible with our system. The same features of this box are rolled into the DiabloSport unit that we offer with our kit (tire size, gears, winch mode, etc.),
Hypertech (07-10JK)–This was our plug and play option for the non-intercooled Jeep JKs. We have not used these tuners for a few years and recommend replacingt with a Diablo InTune unit when upgrading to an intercooler.
12+ Pentastar 3.6L systems (all)
DiabloSport is the only option currently offered for these systems. Our tuner boxes for these units are now plug-and-play with custom tune support offered.
We do not offer support for any other tuner options at this time.
05-06 TJ 4.0L, p/n 257A1000
We only offer the DiabloSport InTune for this range of TJ Jeep.
05-06 LJ 4.0L, p/n 257A1000
This model is a bit of a black sheep of the Jeep family. The PCM in in this vehicle is indeed different, and more like the 3.8 JK instead of the TJ, even though it is cable operated. The DiabloSport unit we include in the kit is the only option we support for this chassis. Installation is straight forward and we have the tunes ironed out for this vehicle.
96-04 TJ p/n 257A1007
You’ve got a few options for tuning on these older models. These use our “hardware only” kit option. Fitment isn’t 100% as straight forward as 05-06 TJ models—you have to relocate the IAT sensor. This generation of Jeeps are built for certain geographical areas. California spec models are built different than the rest. The charcoal canister is in a different spot and the A/C can be on the left or the right depending on the year. Little things like this can get in the way of a seamless install, so do your homework and don’t be afraid to ask questions.
AEM 30-1930 (F/IC-8)
There is some history to this piggyback unit on Jeeps in the community. The factory PCM likes this controller because of the cam and crank signals. You have to intercept both signals at the same time to keep the factory computer happy. This unit will also help you with generating a fuel map that is pretty close to where it needs to be. Some slight adjustment is usually needed to make it perfect and eliminate check engine lights (+/- 20 pips in the mid-range). You can also adjust spark timing. We recommend removing 1 degree of timing per psi of boost (6 psi = 6 degrees of timing removed). The trick with supercharger tuning is to remove that timing very early to avoid knock. You get 6 psi of boost as low as 1200 rpm as fast as you can hit the gas pedal.
This AEM unit must be wired in. The interface is fairly intuitive and Windows based.
Split Second
These piggyback units are plug-and-play, but they do not generate any maps in the software for you like the AEM. This unit plugs in, but the interface looks like DOS. Tuning support is available from Split Second.
A dirty trick…This only works at sea level or lower elevations below 3,000 ft. If you play in the mountains, this won’t work. 28-32 lb. injectors drop right in and work without a tune. In a pinch, this can get you down the road. We no longer offer injectors with our hardware only kit because they are too big to drop in and go. We still strongly suggest a piggyback tuning solution, but you can buy cheaper injectors that drop into your application like they do on strokers. Please be advised that 1996-1998sh uses a different injector body than 2000+. They are a different impedance and different size on the older Jeeps. (Consult with your preferred tuning shop.)
96-04 XJ
Please see above. Same rules on these older PCMs.

What about my stroker engine?

Our superchargers were designed to be competitive with stroker engines, not work on top of them – 275 hp from a blown 4.0L vs. 275 hp aspirated stroker. When you combine the two, the blower is spinning very hard to only provide 3-4psi of boost on a 4.7L stroker. The combination works, but you won’t be breaking any records. The massive torque this combination makes is pretty healthy. If you insist on doing this combination anyway, skip the big camshaft and get a nice exhaust.
